Sandor Onodi was born in Budapest, Hungary, in 1985. Sandor studied at the Bela Bartok Conservatory with Istvan Lukacshazi and at the Universität für Musik und Darstellende Kunst Wien with Professor Alois Posch. During this period he had a private teacher, Professor Norbert Duka. Sandor attended many master classes with Johannes Auersperg, Rainer Zepperitz, Martin Heinze, Stefan Adellman, Zsolt Tibay and Lajos Duduj. Sandor won the 1st prize at the 1st Lajos Montag Doublebass Competition in 2003.

Sandor was member of the Gustav Mahler Jugendorchester for three-and-a half years, playing under Claudio Abbado, Herbert Blomstedt, Ingo Metzmacher, Philip Jordan, Cristoph-Mathias Mueller and Patrick Lange. Sandor also gained orchestra experience with Lorin Maazel’s Castleton Festival Orchestra as solo bass, the Wiener Staadtsoper backstage orchestra and was solo bass in Wiener USO with Pierre Boulez.

At the age of 22 Sandor won his first position at the Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra as Sub-Principal Doublebass.
