Islam Elhefnawy

Born in Cairo in 1981. Islam Elhefnawy joined Cairo Conservatory at the age of 6 and studied violin with Professor Irakly Beridze and Professor Hassan Sharara.

– In 2001: Graduated from Cairo Conservatory (Excellent with honor)

– In 2005: Diploma

– In 2010: Masters Degree (Excellent with honor) in Musical Arts (violin)

– In 2017: PHD Degree (Excellent with honor) in Musical Arts (violin) from Cairo Conservatory.

 Work Experience

– For 11 years (From 1996 – 2007):

 Member of Cairo Opera Orchestra and was the second concertmaster in the last 3 years (2005-2007)

– In 2004:

 The concertmaster of Egyptian Philharmonic Society Orchestra in Cairo

– From (2008 – till present):

 A tutti member of Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra.

Tomoki Kirita

Born on August 22, 1978 in Kazuno, Japan. Tomoki began playing the trumpet at the age of 10 and received further tuition from Teruyo Hayashi before completing a Pedagogical degree in Music at Yamagata University in 2001.

He received his post-graduate diploma at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater, Munich, having studied with Professor Hannes Läubin. Tomoki has performed with such orchestras as: Saarland State Opera House,  Bavarian State Opera, Munich, and Schleswig-Holstein Landestheater Sinfonieorchester.

Tomoki is currently living in Qatar, holding a position of a trumpeter with the Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra.

Joris Laenen

Born in Lier, Belgium. Joris studied at the Royal Conservatory in Antwerp both piano and trumpet. He then completed his studies at the Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst in Frankfurt am Main, where he obtained his Masters in music with the highest distinction in 2006.

After his studies, Joris Laenen was engaged at the same college as a teacher of orchestral studies. As a performing orchestral musician, before joining the Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra, he has performed worldwide with the Antwerp Symphony Orchestra, European Union Youth Orchestra, and many others.

He had a permanent contract with the Frankfurt Opera as a principal trumpet player from 2006 until 2007. In 2004, he won the prestigious Yamaha International Trumpet Contest in Berlin, and in 2005 the second prize at the Lions Club Trumpet Competition in Brussels.

As a pianist, he founded together with some other members of the Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra, the international ensemble Emoción, for which he also writes the arrangements and his original compositions.

They made their US debut in the summer of 2019 at the world-famous Jazz at Lincoln Center in New York.

Sebastian C. Zuluaga

Colombian Bass Trombone player of the Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra. Sebastian obtained the second place in the International Trombone Competition held in Budapest, Hungary. During the 2017-2018 season he was Bass Trombone of the Zürich Philharmonia (Zürich Opera Orchestra), and he also collaborated with the Zürich Kammerorchester (Zürich Chamber Orchestra).

Among other orchestras he has collaborated with are the Mariinsky Orchestra from Saint Petersburg, Orquesta Sinfónica Provincial de Santa Fe (Argentina), and Statkapelle Halle (Germany). He has represented Colombia in the YOA (Youth orchestra of the Americas) and the international academy Teatro del Lago in Chile.

Sebastian was the first Colombian trombonist to be invited to offer a recital during the International Trombone Festival (ITF), held in the city of Muncie, Indiana in July 2019. He is working on his first record production with works by Colombian composers.

Richard Alberto Alonso Diaz

Originally from Colombia, Richard Alonso Diaz is the current principal tuba player with the Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra.

In Argentina, he has been the principal tuba player with the Buenos Aires Philharmonic Orchestra of the Teatro Colon and additionally of the Opera Orchestra of the La Plata Theater.

Mr. Alonso has collaborated with the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra, Staatskapelle Berlin, West-Eastern Divan Orchestra, Orchestra of the Komische Oper Berlin and the Iceland Symphony Orchestra.

His passion for brass studies and performance have led him all over Latin America and Germany, to study with Professor Walter Hilgers, Sebastian Wagemann, Thomas Keller, Fredy Romero, Ruben Rodriguez Ferreira, and Pedro Pulzovan.

Dimo Pishtyalov

Born in Plovdiv, Bulgaria. Dimo at the age of 13 was accepted into Kostadin Takov’s trombone class at the “Dobrin Petkov” National School of Music and Dance.

In 2002, after five years of studies, he graduated with excellence. During this period Dimo Pishtyalov participated and was a laureate of many national and international music competitions in Bulgaria and abroad.

His further studies took him to the University of the Arts in Bern, Switzerland, where he was accepted into Professor Branimir Slokar’s trombone class. While in Bern, Dimo Pishtyalov also had the chance and took part in some of the major international music competitions for trombone.

In 2004 he was a laureate at the Prague Spring Trombone Competition in Prague, Czech Republic. Along with his studies with Professor Slokar and Dimo Pishtyalov, he has also had the opportunity to participate in master classes given by Timofei Dokschitzer, Professor Denis Wick, Professor Ian Bousflied, Professor Jonas Bylund, and Joseph Alessi. In 2006 Dimo Pishtyalov completed successfully his Bachelor Degree (Orchesterdiplom) and in 2009 his Master degree (Solistendiplom) .

Dimo Pishtyalov has been a member of the Pazardzhik Symphony Orchestra, Biel Solothurn Symphony Orchestra, Gustav Mahler Youth Orchestra, Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra, and Philharmonia Zurich.

In August 2008, Dimo Pishtyalov moved to Doha, State of Qatar to join the Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra as Principal trombone.

German Diaz Blanco

Santa Cruz de Tenerife, 1986. He started his music studies at the age of 8, at the “Professional Conservatory” of Tenerife, He later joined the “Reina Sofia College of Music” in Madrid under the tutoring of Professor Hansjörg Schellenberger and Víctor Anchel, being awarded as best student in 2009.

In the same year, Germán Díaz moved to Munich after joining the academy of the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, where he had lessons with Stefan Schilli and Ramon Ortega; and he played under the baton of conductors such as David Zinman, Mariss Jansons, Bernard Haitink, Sir Colin David and Andris Nelsons on tours in Europe and Asia.

Díaz Blanco has collaborated as principal oboist with many orchestras such as: Seoul Philharmonic, Musikcollegium Winterthur, Royal Scottish National Orchestra, Bach Collegium München, Camerata Salzburg, and Symphony Orchestra of Tenerife (where he was invited to perform as soloist the oboe concerto from B. A. Zimmerman).

As a chamber music player, he is regularly invited to perform with Plural Ensemble (Madrid) and Quantum Ensemble (Tenerife). He won several prizes in international oboe competitions as well, including Third Prize in the International Oboe Competition “Giuseppe Tomassini” in Petritoli (Italy, 2010), and Special Prize of the Jury in the International Oboe Competition “Gheorghe Dima”.

Has been invited to teach and perform in numerous festivals and universities such as “Nonaka Actus” (Tokyo, 2010), “Suwon University” (South Korea), “OFF Festival” (Slovenia, 2012) “Festival Piero Bellugi” y “Campus Musicale Lunigiana” (Italy, 2014); “Conservatorio Superior de Música de Canarias” and “Festival de Música Orotava” (Spain, since 2016).

Since 2014, Diaz Blanco is the principal oboe of the Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra, invited to perform Strauss oboe concerto in October 2017.

 

Claire Glago

Claire was born in London, UK and moved to Cape Town, SA at the age of 5. At 6, she began piano lessons and later started oboe lessons aged 10, at the ‘Beau Soleil’ music centre with Sharon Fligner-Lindquist. She was a prize-winner in national music competitions such as the ATKV (woodwind prize) and Hugenot competition (1st prize).

In 1998, Claire moved back to London and continued her studies at the Royal College of Music where she was awarded a full international scholarship from the ABRSM to study oboe with John Anderson and piano with Neil Immelman and John Byrne. Claire was also a recipient of the Ernest Oppenheimer Musical Trust award.

In her first year at the RCM, Claire was awarded the ‘Manilow’ prize. In her second year, she completed an ‘Erasmus’ exchange in Oslo studying under Erik Niord Larsen. Upon graduating at the RCM in 2002 with a B Mus (Hons), Claire decided to continue postgraduate studies in Munich, Germany with Francois Leleux at the ‘Richard Strauss Konservatorium’ and later at the ‘Hochschule fuer Musik und Theater’. She was awarded her ‘Meisterklasse’ diploma in 2006.

In Germany, Claire gained orchestral experience by working with orchestras such as the NDR Radiophilharmonie, Bochumer Symphony, Gaertnerplatz orchestra, BR Symphony orchestra, Munich Symphony, Camerata Salzburg, and Munich chamber orchestra.

From 2005-2006, she completed a ‘Praktikum’ with the BR radio orchestra. In 2006, Claire began in the ‘Mozarteum’ orchestra in Salzburg as 2nd oboe/English horn and switched to the same position in 2008 as a founding member of the Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra where she has been based ever since.

Zsolt Peter

I am Zsolt Peter from Hungary.

I studied at Bela Bartok Conservatory and graduated at Ferenc Liszt Academy of Music in Budapest.

I was member of the Budapest State Opera House and the Budapest Festival Orchestra. Later I moved to Kuala Lumpur in 1998, and became founding musician of the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra for ten years.

In 2008, I joined the Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra as second, fourth horn.

Laszlo Froschl

László Fröschl, born on 08 June 1967 in Budapest,
Hungary, began his musical education at the Bela
Bartok Music Conservatory in Budapest from 1981 to
1985, followed by further studies at the prestigious
Ferenc Liszt Academy of Music in Budapest from
1985 to 1990.

He started his professional career as Principal Horn in
the Budapest Matáv Symphony Orchestra from 1988
to 1990. He then continued by joining the Gulbekian
Orchestra in Lisbon from 1990 to 1991 as 1st and 3rd
Horn player, gaining valuable experience.

In 1991, László joined the Hungarian State Opera as
3rd Horn player, where he dedicated twenty years of
his career to the institution.

Additionally, he also played 3rd Horn in the Hungarian
National Philharmonic Orchestra from 2008 to 2010.
In 2011, László embarked on a new chapter in his
musical journey by joining the Qatar Philharmonic
Orchestra as 2nd and 3rd Horn player.
