Michael Hesse was born in 1976 in Leipzig, Germany. He attended Leipzig´s Mendelssohn Conservatory under the tutorship of Gewandhaus Orchestra´s solo viola, D.Hallmann, and the soloist T. Masurenko. Mr. Hesse played solo viola in several German youth orchestras, was a laureate at competitions for young musicians and participated in master classes with the famous violist, Professor J. Kussmaul. Michael was a member of the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival. From 2000 to 2002 he was a member of the Gustav Mahler Youth Orchestra (director: Claudio Abbado) and worked there with world-famous conductors such as Seiji Ozawa, Pierre Boulez, Mariss Jansons and Claudio Abbado, performing at the festivals of Lucerne, Salzburg and the London Proms.

Mr. Hesse has worked with the Halle Philharmonic Orchestra, Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra and as sub-principal viola of the Erfurt Philharmonic Orchestra. He has participated in music festivals in Germany and the United States (Castleton: Lorin Maazel). He has been a member of the Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra since 2008.
