Julie Sgarro was born in 1984 in Saint Mandé, France. She started to study the harp when she was 7 in the Conservatoire de musique de Toulon with Vassilia Briano. In 2001 she decided to go to Germany to further her studies with the legendary Xavier De Maistre, solo harpist of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra, in the Hochschule für Musik und Theater Hamburg, and later in the Karajanakademie with Marie-Pierre Langlamet, harpist of the Berlin Philharmonic. She won prizes in many harp competitions such as Martine Geliot in Lille and Reinl Stiftung in Vienna.

Julie Sgarro has played in orchestras since she was 15. She played and performed with such famous orchestras as the Vienna Philharmonic, Berlin Philharmonic and the Gewandhaus Orchestra. In 2010 she won the principal harp chair with the Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra.
