Hosam Haggag was born in 1975 in Kuwait, moved to Cairo in 1992 and joined the Cairo Conservatoire. In 2000 he obtained his bachelor degree and a higher studies diploma with “Honours Excelent.”
In 2004 Hosam won a scholarship to study at the Music Academy of the Staats Opera in Berlin, as he joined the Berliner High School of Music Hanns Eisler. In 2007 he finished successfully his Diplom and continued his studies at Franz Liszt Music High School in Weimar to obtain a high studies Diplom in 2008.
Hossam studied with many international teachers such as Gerd Reinke, Robert Kassinger, Professor Barbara Sanderling and Professor Horst Wenkel.
In 1997 Hosam started his professional career in Cairo Symphony Orchestra, becoming the first kontrabassist before leaving in 2004.
He participated in several international music festivals for orchestra and chamber music and performed chamber music concerts with Daniel Barenboim and members of the Staats Opera Berlin in many different European cities.
Hossam was considered a main member of the West Eastern Divan Orchestra from 1998 until 2008 as Solo Kontrabassist, conducted by Daniel Barenboim.
During the last years he played and recorded with several European orchestras such as WDR Symphony Orchestra in Köln, Gustav Mahler Orchestra conducted by Claudio Abbado and others. In 2008 he joined the Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra.
