Christophe Leroux was born in 1978 in Le Havre, France. He started playing the cello, as well as percussion and piano, at the age of 9. After graduating with honors from Rouen Conservatory, also in chamber music and music theory, he studied in the Paris Conservatory with Marcel Bardon before pursuing a post-graduate program with Peter Rejto at Oberlin College in the United States and then at the Richard-Strauss-Konservatorium in Munich with Horatiu Cenariu. He was Solo Cello of the Jeunesses Musicales World Orchestra from 2000 to 2002 and played in the Mozarteum Orchester Salzburg from 2006 to 2008.

Leroux plays an instrument by Nicolas Caussin made in 1889.
