Andrea Mereutza was born in Bucharest, Romania, and moved with her family to Germany when she was 2 years old. In 1996 she won second prize at the national viola competition, Jugend musiziert. She studied viola in Berlin at the Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler and the Universität der Künste. Her teachers there were Professor Felix Schwartz, Professor Alfred Lipka, Professor Hartmut Rohde and Professor Wilfried Strehle.

After playing two years in the orchestra of Deutsche Oper Berlin she got an engagement as principal viola at Opera Bremen. During that time she was also principal viola of the Deutsches Kammerorchester Berlin. As a guest musician she was invited to play at the Deutsches Sinfonieorchester Berlin, Kammerphilharmonie Bremen, NDR Sinfonieorchester and as principal viola at the Staatsoper Hamburg. Since September 2008 Andrea Mereutza has been a member of the Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra as sub-principal viola.
